Summary of Position

The Digital Marketing Coordinator is a full-time position within our Marketing Department. This position is responsible for creating and editing content for the San Diego Gulls' social media channels, website, mobile app. Additionally, this position is responsible for the planning and execution of the team's email marketing. The role requires someone who is self-motivated and detailed-oriented with a cutting-edge attitude and can balance several tasks to help enhance our digital marketing platforms as a vital communication tool for our fans.

This position will report to the Digital Marketing Manager and the candidate will adhere to the team's social media strategy and guidelines when developing content for posting on organizational social accounts and assisting in the management of assigned digital media responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Produce content for the San Diego Gulls social media sites including Facebook, X Corp., Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, etc.
  • Identify opportunities for 1:1 communication with fans via social platforms in order to build brand affinity and drive meaningful growth
  • Assist in responding to fans across multiple digital platforms
  • Work closely with the Digital Marketing Manager and other members of the organization to lead player social media education and empowerment
  • Assist in tracking and analyzing social media performance
  • Assist and produce Gulls email communication design, tracking and follow up reporting
  • Create and post exclusive content for the Gulls mobile application
  • Ability to work both independently and the desire to work collaboratively within larger meetings, discussions and brainstorm sessions
  • Cover the San Diego Gulls home and away games on a regular basis by producing highlights and making frequent posts to social media sites, mobile app and website
  • Write, edit, and update content posted on the website including news, features, plus community and marketing pages
  • Stay aware of latest industry trends and behaviors - both inside and outside of sports - and apply insights into creative and strategic approach
  • Work closely with other departments to determine how to leverage social media to reach various business objectives
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or related field
  • Minimum 1-2 years experience working directly for a professional sports team, brand or within an agency
  • Understanding of hockey, the American Hockey League, hockey culture and language, vocabulary and jargon used in the sport of hockey
  • Immersed in social networks (Tik Tok, Facebook, X Corp., Instagram, YouTube and others)
  • Must be self-directed, detail-oriented and have the ability to organize and schedule work effectively in order to meet deadlines
  • Awareness and understanding of AP Style and its use in sports
  • Ability to multitask and re-prioritize assignments appropriately, while maintaining an ability to juggle numerous projects simultaneously
  • Photography or video experience a plus
  • Basic understanding of Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Strong visual eye for social media graphics, photography, videos, copy, etc
  • Strong understanding of social media best practices, social platforms and different ways to utilize said platforms to engage fans and build a community
  • Intense passion for helping us grow digital marketing aspects of the business
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work nights, weekends and some holidays as required
  • Excellent time management and planning skills
  • Strong attention to detail, grammar and proofreading skills
  • Must maintain confidentiality and use upmost discretion when privy to sensitive information
  • Candidate is required to provide specific examples of their work
